We moved onto our property at the end of 2019, after years of wanting to get into the country. My wife and I have traveled all over the US as insurance adjusters in the RV with the 2 dogs. My wife loved the life of traveling, but I was hungry for a piece of land that was just our own. When we acquired the property, it was just raw land with Junipers and Oaks covering the property. In the time that we have had it we initially cleared the driveway and the area where we built the shop and future house. We live in the 21'x42' shop that we built ourselves except for the spray foam insulation and the concrete slab. We started with chickens and quail and then moved to pigs. We really enjoy the pigs and their personalities as well as the land clearing they are able to help us with. We have created 2 large paddocks where the pigs call home. They have disturbed the land just as we intended and we are now moving away from breeding the pigs, to just raise the number we need to feed our family and friends. We are not able to work and make money from the homestead full time at this point, but we do everything we can to provide for ourselves first and then our family and then our neighbors. I have experience with butchering pigs and chickens, and enjoy sharing the knowledge with others. Composting and vermiculture is also something we continue working on and growing on a daily basis. If anything we do interests you send us a message and we can connect and see if there is any way we can help you achieve your dream to live in the country on your own land.
At this time we do not have a large market garden as we focus on ourselves first, then our family, and then our neighbors.
